Open Call for the 2025 Special Issue Topic of SERJ

21 March 2023
Statistics Education Research Journal

The Statistics Education Research Journal (SERJ) publishes an annual special issue focusing on a specific topic relevant to the field of statistics education research. The proposed topics should contribute significantly to the field, presenting added value within the context of a special issue. Topics may pertain to emerging areas in statistics and data science education or classical research subjects that benefit from a special issue's additional perspective. A team of two to four guest editors, alongside the SERJ Special Issue editor, will oversee each special issue, adhering to SERJ's standard peer review process for special issues. Each special issue, once approved, will be broadly advertised in the statistics education networks. Interested authors are asked to submit an abstract. The SI guest editors can of course also personally invite colleagues. The decision whether authors will be invited to submit a full paper will be done in a team of the SI guest editors and the SERJ SI editor.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We are looking forward to proposals to guest-edit a SERJ Special Issue for 2025. Proposals for the SERJ Special Issue 2025 should include the following:

  1. A concise two-page overview of the special issue topic, outlining its scope, significance, and motivation. The proposers are required to emphasize the unique value of grouping articles and demonstrate that the proposed topic is not currently addressed in other journal special issues unless it offers distinct features. Additionally, the proposers should ensure there is sufficient potential for contributions to the proposed journal.
  2. Aprovisional timetable specifying submission deadlines, review, and revision periods. Consider a minimum six-week review period and the necessity to submit all manuscripts and editorial materials to the SERJ Assistant editor three months before publication (publication is planned in summer 2025).
  3. An initial list (at least 6 names) of possible researchers (Name, Affiliation, possible topic) who might be invited to contribute.
  4. Brief background information on each submitting proposer, highlighting their relevant experiences or skills for serving as guest editors (limited to half a page per person).

     SELECTION CRITERIA

The SERJ Advisory Board will assess the submitted proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the proposed topic to SERJ
  • Overall quality of the proposal, focusing on originality, coherence, and contributions to statistical education research
  • Experience of the proposers in scholarly publications
