Statistical Education for Decision Makers for Evidence Based Policy Making

Organizer

Abstract

Many decision makers at both national and local levels of government lack even simple statistical skills required to interpret data and provide evidence-based policies.

The three papers in this session discuss different aspects of this problem: using Likert satisfaction scales to measure the effectiveness of government in a Chinese Autonomous Region; using real data from the US based Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) to teach basic statistics; and using data from the Croatian 2015 Cedefop Survey of skills shortages to demonstrate the need for adult learning opportunities in statistics.
