Biography:

Professor Harch has a dual role at QUT – where the focus is on the research and development strategy for QUT’s largest Faculty – Science and Engineering (Assistent Dean – Research) and its Institute of Future Environments (IFE Deputy Director – Research).

The role in the Science and Engineering Faculty (SEF) focuses on research and development (R&D) excellence for disciplinary science across STEM. A focus on research quality.

For her role in the Institute the focus is developing R& D for industry and government through D^3 (Demonstration, Deployment, and Dissemination). In particular, developing impact pathways for QUT’s research via collaboration and action learning with our stakeholders. A focus on research impact.

Prof Bronwyn Harch obtained a joint undergraduate Science Degree (Honours) in Environmental Science and Secondary Teaching (Mathematics and Science) from Griffith University/QUT. She completed her industry funded PhD (Grains Research & Development Corporation) in the Agriculture Department of The University of Qld in 1996. She joined CSIRO as a postdoc in Adelaide in 1995. She moved back to Brisbane in 2000 to build CSIRO’s agri-environmental capabilities and catalyse research collaborations with government and industry from Qld. Previously Prof Harch was Chief of CSIRO division of Computational Informatics and Deputy Director of CSIRO’s Sustainable Agriculture Flagship. Dr Harch’s personal research has focused on statistical design of landscape-scale sampling protocols and monitoring programs, as well as the statistical modelling of complex systems, particularly agri-environmental systems. This has seen her develop multi-disciplinary research, engagement and commercialisation strategies with state and federal government and their agencies, Australian and global multi-national companies (e.g. Bayer, Orica, Boeing, AMP) and partnerships with research organisations (e.g a National Research Flagship Cluster, Chinese Academy of Sciences, NASA) – with a particular focus at the agri-environmental and informatics interface. She has held associate editor roles with a number of international journals and has recently contributed to the Australian Academy’s development of a Decadal Plan for Mathematics and the Australia’s Ecosystem Science Decadal Plan. Bronwyn is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Science and Engineering (ATSE), an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD), an Accredited Member of the Statistical Society of Australia Inc., and President of The International Environmetrics Society. She also currently holds the positions of Adjunct Professor – Centre for Riverine Landscapes, Griffith University, Adjunct Professor – Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Wollongong, Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Chinese National Administration for Surveying and Mapping and Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping, and Adjunct Professor of the C.R. RAO Institute at Hyderabad University, India.
