Andrej Blejec is a Full Professor of Biostatistics at the Department of Biology at University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). He has more than 30 years of experience in teaching statistics for biologists and works as a statistical consultant at the National Institute for Biology. He is presently teaching undergraduate courses in Statistics and Computer Science and graduate courses in Biostatistics and Computational Statistics and received a Teacher of the Year award for 2005. In 2006 he was a visiting professor at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. His current research is connected with application of stochastic processes in neuroscience and analysis of DNA micro-array experiments. His main interest in statistical education is design and use of computer simulation systems for explanation of statistical concepts and use of computer technology for better teaching of statistics.

He was a president of Statistical Society of Slovenia (SSS, 2005 - 2016 ), served as a vice-president of the SSS from 1997-01, and is a president of the Section for Statistical Education of SSS. From 2004 he is chairing the Organizing Committee of the international conferences Applied Statistics, yearly meetings of SSS. He is a member of IASE since its foundation and was a vice president of IASE executive committee (2005-2009). He is an associate editor of SERJ and was a co-editor of IASE Matters and IASE Newsletter and serves as a National Correspondent for Slovenia. At ICOTS6 and ICOTS7 he organized sessions on the use of technology and computer simulations in statistics education. He was a local organizer and a chair of organizing committee of ICOTS8, held in 2010 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Andrej is the current president of IASE (2015 - 2017).
